The Greatest Photo Book Review Ever

image

A couple of months ago I came upon this article:

The Great Photo Book Round-Up Review: Who Makes The Best Photo Books?

What a great service to all of us!! Jason Dunn is very thorough in his experiment but click here if you just want to see his conclusion (which includes an executive summary of each service he tried).

So if any of you have been wanting to make a photo book but didn’t know where to start or which service was worth the cost, your guesswork is over.

I will say that Rob did a photo book for me a couple of years ago through My Canvas (which Dunn didn’t review) for Mother’s Day. It was $50 and it looks beautiful.

Heather – A Graduate

Here are some pictures of the very beautiful Heather. She just graduated from Taylorsville High School and we were lucky enough to be asked to take her senior portraits.

She is a dancer and we wanted to showcase her long, lean lines.

We were lucky to get this shot. It was so windy that she had to hold her skirt down most of the time to prevent exposing anything. Those eyes! She about went blind in order for us to get this, but capturing the color in her eyes was worth it (at least to us it was).

I love how the tree frames her perfectly.

We love these last two. She looks like such an elegant model! We wanted to get as much rad sun flare as possible. I think we got some!

Congratulations, Heather!

Life on a Block Continued

This is a follow-up blog post to Julie’s Life on a Block post back in April. You should probably check that post out before proceeding here. We took the entire family to participate in the Photowalking Utah, Ogden Photowalk. We had a wonderful time hanging out with the kids and photographing such a remarkable area.

Zelda’s doggie bowl caught my eye. Not many items on this street have this color.

Given the late hour of the day and a plethora of wrought-iron adornments up and down the street, shadow play provided many opportunities for fun!

This broom was sticking up out of the back of a maintenance truck!  I got low to frame it completely against the nice blue sky.

And now for some people pictures. These are by far my favorites! The first is a lovely backlit image of my beautiful Julianna!  She has sexy eyes!

Julie took this image of her “rugged” husband (me).

Madeleine didn’t want to walk around so I caught this one of her in her carseat.

Here is an image of our oldest. Nate is always on the move. This image captures that personality.

Here is one of our kids together!

There are a couple additional images in our Ogden Photowalk Gallery.  Enjoy.

2010 Portraits

Being photographers, we take A LOT of pictures of our children. One thing we don’t take too often are portraits. It was time to get them done and I had been musing “the look” in my mind for months. I knew what I wanted them to wear and where we would take them. Of course, we were running late so I had to do Madeleine’s hair in the car and I couldn’t find her dress shoe that morning. Flip flops worked fine, though.

They are such perfect kids!!! Although, Madeleine is currently uninterested in looking at the camera and smiling. Every time we try, she puts her head down and frowns. Oh, well. We got some really cute ones anyway.

Nate is just a stud!! He loves posing for us and loves it even more if we let him goof off so he gets funny pictures of himself. He is just so handsome.

Together, they make the perfect brother/sister pair. We love you both!!! And thanks for putting up with us always snapping away at you. We just love capturing your personalities and you’ll thank us when you’re older :)

Now for some fun, playful, unplanned shots.

If these bazillion pictures aren’t enough, family can see even more here.

Valley of Fire

Finally we edited our landscape images from our last trip to the Valley of Fire. I hope you enjoy them.

Taken near dusk with the D90 on March 14th. Taken at 1/400s, f/5.3, 66mm, ISO 200. Post processed in Lightroom 2. The clouds are absolutely what drew my gaze for this image.  I exposed for the sky and brought the rocks back up in post.

Taken in the late morning with the D90 on March 14th. Taken at 1/800s, f/8, 18mm, ISO 200. Post processed in Lightroom 2. The two sandstone layers with such striking color differences are what attracted me to this formation.  Completely blown away!

Taken in the early morning with the D90 on March 14th. Taken at 1/400s, f/5.3, 66mm, ISO 200. Post processed in Lightroom 2. Phone Home!

For those with a love of panorama images please enjoy these two. The top image (taken early in the morning) jumped out at me because it seems that the rock formations are climbing out of the sediment. The bottom image is (taken at sunset) a classic look at the Valley of Fire. Clicking on the images will take you to a full-size version (this may take a while to load or you can download them for closer examination).  Pano’s are meant to be viewed large so please enjoy.
